Lots of happings on the Ark
December 31, 2005
This month has seen us going into the local schools ,Caravan parks and resorts to give talks on our wildlife in the northern Territory and what part the Ark plays.Have started to raise some much needed funds.Students were amazing and so generious and filled our fund tins up.They came on an excurion to the Ark and needless to say the joeys were a big hit.One of the volunteers took the children two at a time over to the first rehab yard so they could inter act with them. Everyone was very well behaved and listened to the volunteer.Next year will be big as we missed the tourist season by two weeks.More than likly we will be giving talks most days in 2006. The local caravan and tourist park would like to start tours here in 2006. Should get the ball rolling as far as funding is concerned. The local school Batchelor Area School has shown a great effort in supporting us with all the students involved. The teacher came up with the idea of drawing a kangaroo on a large piece of art paper and getting all the class students to cover it in coins. This raised $46.00 to go towards the sponcership of a Kangaroo. We are forever grateful for their help and continued support. We invited the possum team from Wildcare to have a look at The Ark as a possible release site for them in their next years possum program. A few sights seemed to fit their criteria .And hope we will be hearing from them sometime at the end of the wet season. Which is in full swing now. To give you readers some idea of the amount of water that is coming down. Just today in the space of two hours we had nearly 5 inches and it is still raining off and on. The river(the Finnis)has started to rise and the flood plains are full of water, grass is green and alls beautiful. Plenty of native grass finally so Kangaroo are all happy. Still have three in cages but hopefully they will out before to much longer. Three little joeys in the house in pouches but it will be late in the year before they shall be ready to venture about. The T Shirt page on the web is up and running .So all you past volunteers can purchuse one on line and get behind all the good you had a hand in creating while you were here. The models are also volunteers that were here with us for a time. Thank God for the vollies. The Ark also writes for a news paper in England and you can check it out at www.shookthetree.co.uk Well that all from the Ark Nina
